Acoustic Neuroma (Vestibular Schwannoma) is a Schwann cell derived tumour arising from the Eighth cranial nerve (hearing and balance nerve), found in the Cerebello-Pontine Angle (CPA) and skull base region. Because of its location and the nature, its management requires a multidisciplinary team effort with dedicated clinicians. Hearing loss is the most frequent symptom, occurring in more than 95% of patients. About 90% present with a one-sided, slowly progressive hearing impairment. Hearing as an international health priority

The World Health Assembly will meet in Geneva on Friday to vote on an international action plan to address hearing loss throughout the world. Australia is a member of the Assembly and has actively supported development of the draft resolution and action plan. If the resolution is supported by a majority of member countries, including Australia, hearing health will become a World Health Organisation priority.
