Great news on Disability Commissioner!
The Government has appointed a new full time Disability Commissioner – and it’s Deaf Society President, Alastair McEwin.
Alastair, who is also Chairman of the Disability Council of NSW, will take up the reigns as commissioner in July.
“My mandate is to make sure that it fulfils its aims of making sure that people with disability, no matter where they are, can be active members of the community.
“We still have a long way to go in recognising the human rights of all people with disabilities, and I look forward to working with the government, the disability sector and the human rights commission to realise equity for all people with disability,” he told ABC News.
It’s fantastic news for people with disability right across Australia – and great news for our campaign to Break the Sound Barrier!
We’ll try to catch up with Alistair before he starts work to find out more about his new role. Watch this space
